Future Human: Understanding Innovation in an Age of Radical Change
Live, digitally and in print, Future Human shines a light on innovation in an age of radical change. It strives to tell the stories of the entrepreneurs, innovators and thinkers who are reshaping 21st century Britain, and to uncover the urgent ideas and trends that are forging all of our futures.
Future Human was founded in early 2010 by Jack Roberts, MD of creative media company Good Publishing, and has quickly risen to become a unique and respected authority on the subject of long-term change in the UK. From business and finance to the creative industries, the green economy and science and technology, it delivers deep insight into the accelerating evolution of our culture and economy, to help us better understand the world that is emerging in front of our eyes.
Future Human Salons: Innovation as Theatre
Future Human’s programme of live events began in February 2010 at The Book Club in Shoreditch, where they continue to be hosted. They aim to reinvent the intellectual salon as a source of participative entertainment and intellectual discovery. At each event guests are invited to open their minds, become a part of the show and debate important ideas of the age with some of Europe’s most innovative minds.
Each Future Human salon addresses a unique topic: with Advertising at the Frontiers of Consciousness we explored the increasing use of neuroscience in marketing communications; Immersion Drama shed light on how emerging digital technologies are being used to create increasingly immersive, interactive and personalised narrative entertainments across the arts; and End of the Oil Age projected the energy economy of the post-peak oil era.
A distinguished list of guest alumni includes the record producer Paul Epworth, writer Graham Linehan, solar entrepreneur Jeremy Leggett, solicitor Laura Tyler, blogger Zoe Margolis, fashion entrepreneur Iris Ben David, comedian Mark Stevenson, neuroscientist Gemma Calvert, and author Cory Doctorow, to name a paltry few.
Future Human Live combines entertainment, edification and discovery like no other event, and has garnered wide praise in the mass media. Here are some recent cuttings:
‘A blend of intimacy, anarchy and intellectual nourishment… the salon has arrived in the 21st century’ – The Sunday Times
‘One of London’s top five talk events’ – The Evening Standard
‘Hurrah! We get to pretend to be sophisticated members of the intelligentsia’ – Grazia
‘Lively, informative and fun’ – The Daily Telegraph
‘The new salon for hip intellectuals… book early, tickets sell like (calorie free) hot cakes’ – Time Out
‘Having attended more than our share’s worth of debates, this magnificent series is the only one for which we’d join a Twitter support campaign’ – Londonist
